I thought I knew anatomy well, considering my many years of experience within the health industry and working with massage and reflexology. Much to my surprise, during the training at the Institute of Applied Somatics the articulate use of images, 3d models, and somatic exercises, made me feel like I was truly seeing and understanding the anatomy for the 1st time. Andrea’s teaching style is designed to give as much information as you need to know to do the action, to allow the body to do just that. The results were always palpable in the exercises we did. We started to retain knowledge through physical experience rather than just through studying. Andrea and Allegra’s support throughout was phenomenal. By the 2nd day all the students felt so welcome that it almost just felt like going home rather than to a class. I think this beautiful environment made our learning experience feel magical and authentic. The IoAS somatic work has really opened up my heart space. With the power of the knowledge and the protocols learned, I have felt a true sense of freedom inside my body after years of feeling restricted and trapped. I also feel confident in being able to help other people understand that they can make life changing differences in the way they communicate with their bodies to allow for their hidden issues to be resolved.

Sensorial Feedback and Embodied Anatomy
We will explore multi-sensorial strategies to generate awareness of subconscious processes and somatic release by learning how to move in a room, how to decorate it, how to use the light, windows, tables, chairs, floor, mirrors… but also the hours of the day in combination with the natural cycles of the body, the rhythm in the voice of the practitioners, their silences filled with presence, intuition, patience… Experiencing several sessions in a physical environment built for NSR will allow practitioners to understand subtle yet immensely powerful aspects of their future NSR events.

From a large movement room bathed in natural light, outfitted with 3D anatomy models, as well as a high level sound system and acoustic instruments, to our lounge which features an open kitchen and a seating area for shared restorative moments decorated with a library of reference texts including many research volumes on alternative medicine, art, creativity, anatomy, fascia, philosophy, and psychology.

Integration and Inspiration in a Vibrant City
Our training program is packed with exciting knowledge and experiences but it also includes moments of integration and rest. In your free time, you will process the information you received during the practice hours while you share with the other participants and explore one of the most beautiful and vibrant cities in Europe. We are situated close to the center of the city and at walking distance from major attractions, local markets, and the beach! Summer in Barcelona and the Costa Brava is brimming with cultural celebrations and traditional festivities that are exciting and lots of fun!

Being a Yoga teacher, I had already studied and worked with anatomy, particularly the pelvic floor. This course went far beyond simply mapping the body from table to mat. The implementation of the exercises allowed me to deeply feel the implications of anatomical constructs and how they reshape our human experience. What made it truly engaging was how it connected not just to physical awareness but also to regulating the nervous system, offering a more holistic and transformative approach than I had anticipated. Now I have a new and effective tool at my disposal both as a practitioner and as a yoga teacher! The group dynamic created a unique space that allowed for both active participation and quiet reflection. It offered the freedom to engage through conversation or simply through presence, without the pressure to speak. It opened a window into understanding the profound impact these techniques have on others, offering deeper insights into how somatic work resonates on different levels for each individual. It added a richness to the learning experience, as observing and sharing within the group deepened my own understanding of the material and the experience itself. Overall, the somatic approach has significantly enhanced my abilities, both as a therapist and a teacher. It has deepened my attunement to the language clients use during the Rolfing sessions I impart, allowing me to connect more intuitively with their needs. Additionally, it has shifted the way I emphasize the importance of rest and stillness—particularly in the final resting pose, Shavasana, after a yoga practice.

The training was engaging and the balance between the exercises and theory was just perfect! The structure of all materials and lessons were just amazing! Andrea’s profound knowledge and the wonderful graphic work of his team helped to understand the anatomy. I loved the holistic approach: mind, body, spirit! Dreamtime has been my tool for many years, but I particularly loved the structure in this training because it really helps you to connect with your inner landscapes even during the daytime. It has helped me a lot and will be one of my regular tools while working. It’s something new for people and they can feel the results immediately! I absolutely loved the group setting: sharing, working with each other’s dreams, and having common experiences! All of the practices together opened me up a lot, I was drawing almost every day, and I could see how my drawings got lighter and lighter, with more bright colors. I got a sense of trust in my body, and I really experienced what a vast ocean of buried emotions our physical body is.

At the Institute of Applied Somatics, we have had the pleasure of training practitioners from all over the world. Whether you are a seasoned practitioner looking to expand your skillset or a newcomer eager to enter this dynamic field, our training provides the knowledge, resources, and tools you need to succeed.

The IoAS in person training was an incredible experience that I could not have imagined at all. I had no expectations when I arrived because I had never studied anything like this but what I experienced was magical and gigantic. I didn't know that we could access so much information through the body and somatic consciousness and that we could not only discover traumas and unheard information but also tune in to our wisdom and love. The dreamtime journey technique was incredibly magical to me. It was a great way to integrate everything that the body releases through an intuitive path but that continues to pass through the subconscious mind. Being able to share ideas, doubts, and experiences with other people in the group helped me a lot to integrate the information and obtain other points of view. Simply by listening to my classmates, many doubts were resolved or new ways of seeing something were born.
Paula Medina
Dancer

After months of hardly sleeping because of mood swings, a racing mind, anxiety, and insomnia, I was able to sleep through the night without interruption during the entire time of the training. It felt like a miracle. Just the benefit of sleeping well for the first time in months made the entire experience invaluable to me. Andrea answered everyone’s questions in a way that was comprehensive and yet humble. On the rare occasions when he didn’t have an answer, he would say that he would think about it, or look into it, and then get back to the group with his thoughts or information, which he did. His knowledge of psychology, anatomy, and somatics all seemed very comprehensive to me. Most importantly, he has the ability to take abstract concepts – or visualizations in the case of anatomy – and make the explanations simple and straight-forward. I found that the group-dynamics made the concept of synchronicity come alive. Many times, I heard other people in the workshop talking about something that I had just felt or experienced. Or even if I had not just gone through the same thing, often what was being discussed called back to something that had occurred or happened to me earlier in life. The way the group felt open and free to share often very personal things heightened my feeling that this really works because we were all quite different from one another and yet we were all benefiting from the same process.

My experience exploring somatic awareness and the subconscious of the body was very eye opening. I was surprised and very interested to learn how activating dormant muscles within the body can influence our mental perspective. It opened up the world of the mind-body connection for me and allowed me to understand how freeing your muscles can free your mind. We were given lots of advice on how best to lead clients, and tips on what kind of language to use for the client to keep them open minded and curious throughout the session, allowing their body to give them the answers rather than relying on us (the practitioner). I really loved having the in-person group dynamics. I found it very helpful to have feedback in dreamtime discussions. When I couldn’t understand what my dream was trying to tell me, someone in the group would share their perspective and help me gain a greater insight. We were encouraged to ask questions and we were reassured that whatever our body brings up to the conscious is okay and allowed to be shared. For me, I felt it was a very safe place to allow my body to be vulnerable.
